Ella at 100, Direct from the Apollo
City : Aspen, CO
Venue : Benedict Music Tent
Address : 960 North 3rd Street, Aspen CO 81611
Time : 8:30pm
The Aspen Music Festival and School and Jazz Aspen Snowmass proudly celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the beloved American jazz and pop singer Ella Fitzgerald.
Discovered at a talent show as a seventeen-year-old at the famed Apollo Theatre in Harlem, this show traces Ella’s life in song through some of her greatest musical hits in the Big Band setting that marked so many of her great recordings and performances.
Backed by the legendary Count Basie Orchestra (celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2017!) and featuring three generations of vocalists from multi-Grammy winner Patti Austin, to breakout vocalists Lizz Wright and Andra Day, the Aspen performance reprises a sold-out show at the Apollo in Harlem in October 2016, combining great performance with narration and classic photos. Comedian David Alan Grier tells the stories that introduce each song. It’s a heartwarming musical tour de force that celebrates one of America’s truly iconic voices of the twentieth century, beloved by audiences around the world!
