Grammy Award-winning vocalist and pianist Diane Schuur has long been regarded as one of contemporary jazz’s leading figures. Her perfect pitch has led Schuur in a distinguished recording career that spans three decades, including performances at Carnegie Hall and the White House. Notable collaborations include the Count Basie Orchestra, Ray Charles, and Jose Feliciano, among countless others. Schuur recently recorded an homage to two of her mentors, Frank Sinatra and Stan Getz, who discovered her at the 1979 Monterey Jazz Festival.
Nearly 30 years after his passing, Count Basie is the only bandleader in the history of jazz to have the distinction of his orchestra still performing sold out concerts internationally. During their record-breaking tenure the Count Basie Orchestra has scored 18 Grammy Awards, performed for kings, queens, and other royalty, and has featured some of the greatest soloists in music history, including Lester Young, Billie Holiday, and Joe Williams. The Orchestra’s unmistakable depiction of time and rhythm has set a precedent in 4/4 swing at any tempo that remains unsurpassed. Now led by Scotty Barnhart, the Orchestra includes a number of musicians hand-selected by Basie himself, including Carmen Bradford and Clarence Banks. Having since added some of the sharpest players in jazz, the Orchestra continues to thrive in the essence of their signature swing.
